GU Summer Teacher Institute 2024: Teaching the History of Palestine and Israel in the K-12 Curriculum

Program Dates: July 29-August 2, 2024, 10 am-2:20 pm
Location: Georgetown University, Bunn Intercultural Center (or online)

This year’s Georgetown University Summer Teacher Institute, co-sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies and the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, will focus on the history of the Arab-Israeli Conflict, as it is often called. Participants will move beyond the traditional framing of the issue in K-12 education as a US foreign policy concern, centered on the post-World War II period, to explore the broader historical context of both Palestine and Israel. The program will provide information on the deep history of the issue from primary documents, expert speakers, and evaluation of teaching resources to meet both academic content and skills standards, including the ability to understand multiple perspectives through analysis of documentary sources. Lunch will be served daily, and attendees will receive access to resources, both electronic and print.
