The Japan-America Society of Washington DC (JASWDC) established the Tanaka and Green Academic Scholarship to support short-term academic study (one school year or one semester) at colleges and universities in Japan. Awards of up to $5,000 for one academic year and up to $4,000 for one semester are available. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, room and board, travel, and other approved expenses. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate school in the US, and must provide proof of acceptance at a college or university in Japan for short-term study. Preferences are given to residents of DC, Maryland, or Virginia; to those who can show prior engagement with or study of Japanese language or culture; and/or have been a prior participant in JASWDC activities.
