Deadline: November 15, 2024
Students are invited to make their voices heard this fall by writing a letter to a local elected representative that explains the global issue they want them to prioritize, explains how it connects to their local community, and proposes a solution. Through this contest, students can practice persuasive writing, civic action, and global citizenship, all while exploring the underreported issues that matter to them through Pulitzer Center news stories. Letters should address one of the following topics: climate and environment; global health; human rights; information and artificial intelligence; or peace and conflict.
The contest is open to current K-12 students in the US or around the world. Essays may be written in English and/or Spanish. High school, middle school, and elementary entries will be judged separately. Winners will be awarded cash prizes to support global community engagement in their classrooms, and publication of the letters on the Pulitzer Center website.
