Program Dates: July 11-15, 2022
Application Deadline: March 18, 2022

The National Museum of American Diplomacy (NMAD) at the U.S. Department of State is the only museum in the world dedicated to exploring the history, practices, and challenges of American diplomacy. The museum invites local educators to apply for its summer professional development opportunity, the National Museum of American Diplomacy Summer 2022 Teacher Workshop: Preparing Students for College, Career, and Civic Life with Diplomacy Skills.

The workshop is designed for 6th-12th grade teachers of Social Studies, U.S. History, Government, Modern World History, Language Arts, World Languages, or related subjects. Resource Teachers and Specialists are also eligible to apply. The program is open to educators from DC, Alexandria City, as well as Montgomery, Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince George’s Counties.

The workshop will support educators looking for meaningful ways to meet the National Council for the Social Studies’ College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards, as well as to follow guidance in the recently released Roadmap to Educating for American Democracy, which calls for K-12 curriculum to explore “the place of the U.S. and the American people in a global context” and the use of diplomacy.
